A "Glow’ at the Millennium Tower
‘Glow’, a new chic bar and cafe located at the Automobile Association of Ceylon’s new Millennium Tower at Galle Face, opened recently with a cocktail for invited guests, friends and well-wishers. Ganaka Herath and Krister Fernando, the two men behind this project, explained that this concept, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka followed the trend of lounge bars emerging in the West... "neoteric with simple lines and neutral hues, utilizing cement and frosted glass". The centrepiece of the room is the actual bar counter, which keeping with the cement and frosted glass theme literally ‘Glows’ with the lighting. The stylish interior also includes specifically designed pieces of furniture and decor, coupled with soft lighting and background new age and urban chillout music playing, accentuates the overall ambience of the room. Located in the heart of Colombo’s five-star hotel and business district, this is a striking change in concept and atmosphere to other bars and pubs. Fitting the right chic profile, ‘Glow’ was the selected establishment for the launch of ‘Blavod’, a new brand of Black Vodka launched in Sri Lanka by the favourites group. Boasting a wide range of local and imported beers and spirits, the menu also includes wines from over ten countries, fresh juices and speciality cocktails and shooters. Theme nights every Thursday will include Mexican and Vodka nights, Jazz night and a wine night. The open-air cafe, located on the rooftop, with seating for 5O diners, serves fusion cuisine under the care of an experienced five-star chef. The candlelit rooftop having casual bench-style seating in a relaxed atmosphere, offers a spectacular elevated view of Galle Face. Any restrictions on membership, I inquired... definitely not. "This is the kind of establishment that caters to wide range of demographics. . . providing a five-star service and experience at an affordable price". ‘Glow’, a Tourist Board approved project, is located on the 3rd Floor, 42 Sir Mohamed Macan Markar Mawatha, Colombo 3; Tel: O74 714666 Opening times: 6 p.m. daily (cafe closes at 1 1 p.m.) except Mondays and Poya days. Reservations for private and corporate functions are available. (zc) ****** FOR THE COCKTAIL PARTY Last Thursday, June 12th saw the launch of ‘Glow’ with a private party for family, friends and well- wishers of the two working directors - Ganaka Herath and Krister Fernando. Champagne flowed and colourful and exotic cocktails and canapes circulated the room constantly. The panorama of colour was only in keeping with the stylish attire of guests, the women sporting elegant shalwars and sarees to cocktail dresses and the men in cool linens and silk shirts. The informal function, supposedly to break up at 9.30 p.m., ended up finishing only at midnight with everyone having had a ball and hoping ‘Glow’ would provide many more a night like this in the future. Everyone from business magnates to industry professionals were in attendance. |
