New WP (South) Traffic Range in grand job

In a series of operations to curb the proliferation of road accidents, the newly-created Western Province (South) Traffic Range made 1546 detections during a ten-day period, a senior police official said last week.

Police also moved in to bring to book push cyclists riding in the night without lights as they are a threat to motorists. Legal action was filed against 351 cyclists in this connection, said Superintendent of Police R. E. C. Ranjan, who heads this traffic range.

Legal action was also filed against 282 motorists driving without lights. The other detections were, 560 motorists brought to book for transgressing road rules, 168 for speeding, 50 air-conditioned, inter-city private buses and 135 motorists for various other offences.

The traffic range which functions under SP Ranjan is under the purview of DIGs Daya Jayasundara and K. P. P. Pathirana.

The operations were conducted under the supervision of IP Saman Jayasena, SIs Peiris, Aranpola and Abeydeera.
