The 14th annual convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will be held today at 2.00 p.m. at the Nittambuwa Sangabodhi Vidyalaya.

Presidential spokesperson, Janadasa Peiris said yesterday the special feature of this convention will be the issuing of a new policy statement.

The statement will deal with five issues. The introductory chapter will highlight the history of the party and how their policies developed over the years. The five issues will be a discussion of the national issue, the party’s economic policy, social development, good governance and law and order issues, he said.

"The SLFP is a new social democratic party," Peiris said.

PA Media Spokesman, Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that all MPs and members of the provincial councils will attend the convention.

Dr. Amunugama dismissed speculation that the SLFP was being re-organised and that there was a move to give more powers at grassroot level.

SLFP General Secretary, Maithripala Sirisena said, contrary to certain reports the party intended to establish a new post of deputy leader. "It is only a rumour and our party has no such post," he said.
