"CIMOGG has answers to country’s burning issues" While analysing the historical development of Sri Lanka during the last 50 years and the present situation, Chairman of Commercial Bank, Mahendra Amarasuriya said he could see the Citizens Movement for Good Governance (CIMOGG) model of governance, which was released recently under the title "People’s Movement for National Regeneration" had the answers for several of the burning current issues. Addressing the CIMOGG annual general meeting as the keynote speaker last week, Amarasuriya said what was most impressive to him about the document was that the recommendations of CIMOGG were based on subsidiarity, accountability and trusteeship. The principle of subsidiary being based on the fact that smallest viable unit, in this case the polling station of 1500 to 2000 persons, exercise as much power as they require to govern themselves. They will pass on only decisions that cannot be made at this level to the next level. The polling station generally covers a village or ward. Amarasuriya concluded by saying that if the vision reflected in the CIMOGG document is realized it will be a momentous event in the history of the country. Nivard Cabraal and Walter Laduwahetty, the Chairman of CIMOGG also spoke. CIMOGG has during the last 12 months being developing a model with a constitutional mechanism, which will ensure democratic practices, good governance, restore sovereign power to the people and give back their self-respect and dignity. Moreover, the concept of self-rule, self-reliance and sustainable development will have a foremost place. The primary object of the "New Political Order" which has been formulated is to build a nation that is free, independent and united, which can take its place with honour in the family of nations. CIMOGG has been having extensive discussions throughout the country to discuss the proposals.
