Devans to form past cricketers Association Old boys of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, a school which has produced a number of Sri Lankan cricketers, hope to form a Past Cricketers’ Association in July this year. The association is to be formed with a motive of facilitating cricketers both present and past. Olga Herath, Ajith Ekanayake, Ranjith Madurasinghe, Rajith Amunugama, Eric Upashantha, Jeewantha Kulathunga and Rangana Herath are the old Devans who have represented the country at cricket. Once formed, the association hopes to support budding cricketers who don’t enjoy the best facilities to pursue the sport of cricket. The Association will comprise a committee headed by the school’s past cricketers who are employed at various business establishments and the state sector. They have outlined the need to evaluate the current situation and pick the cricketers who don’t have the alma mater behind them . The inaugural meeting will be held in Kurunegala at the Seasons Hotel during the first week of July 2003 and all past cricketers of Maliyadeva are requested to attend it.
