Coffin in House probed
Opp. MPs face disciplinary action

Several Oppositon MPs face disciplinary action over the coffin escapade in the House on June 19 in a protest against what they termed "the death of democracy".
Speaker Joseph Michael Perera yesterday made a special announcement to the House about the security implications arising from incidents of this nature.
He had carried out an investigation and consulted the Inspector General of Police as well, he said.

Hospital sources at Raffles Hospital in Singapore said that Ladan Bijani (L) and her conjoined sister Laleh had both died July 8, 2003, after two days of unprecedented, high-risk surgery to separate their heads and brains. Doctors said that 29-year-old Ladan passed away first and a hospital nurse told Reuters that her sister Laleh died a short time later.     The national basketball team will leave the shores of the island this afternoon to take part in the ABC Middle Asia Zone Qualifying Tournament in New Delhi, India. The tournament would be played from 10th to 12th July 2003 in New Delhi. Along with Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan and Kurdistan will be competing for honours.

In 1991, the complex was completed with the building of the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium for the SAF Games in Colombo. And thus the country could boast of it’s only internationally acclaimed sports complex.
