Kandy -
The driver of an ambulance transporting a patient from the Deltota hospital to the Peradeniya teaching hospital on Sunday night was assaulted by three men because he sounded his siren.

The three men were travelling in a lorry hogging the road in front of the ambulance, Peradeniya police said.

The patient the ambulance was carrying is reported to have died.

Driver T. B. Ratnayake was admitted to the Peradeniya hospital.

Meanwhile, the employees of the Deltota hospital staged a walk-out on Monday demanding the arrest of the men who assaulted the driver of the ambulance.

They later returned for duty after the intervention of the Central Provincial Council’s Health Minister Saliya Bandara Dissanayake.

The Peradeniya police have arrested three men identified as Sunil Ratnapala, Ajith Chandralal and Sameera Prabath who were later remanded till July 10 by the Kandy Chief Magistrate Leon Seneviratne.
