Two hospital workers interdicted

by Neminda Samarajeewa
Two minor workers of the Colombo South Teaching hospital were interdicted last week in connection with a fight within the hospital premises over a dispute during working hours, official sources said.

The violent encounter had started after one of the employees, armed with an oxygen bar, had attacked a colleague for working during the recent strike by minor hospital employees. Both of them had fought in front of Ward No. 25 and a professor had informed the hospital director about the incident, the sources said.

Two health ministry officers visited the hospital as an inquiry was initiated into the violence. One of the workers had a service of about 10 years while the other was a casual hand.

Letters were sent out last week by the hospital director asking the two workers involved to surrender their identity cards and keys of the lockers to the office of the overseer.

Earlier attempts to attack minor employees who worked during the strike were abortive as additional security was provided by the Kohuwala police.
