W. J. S. Karunaratne secy. to president

W. J. S. Karunaratne has been appointed secretary to the president. Karunaratne has been acting secretary to the president since the retirement of K. Balapatebendi three months ago.

Karunaratne majored in Sociology at the University of Peradeniya before he Joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1967. He then moved onto Cambridge for his postgraduate studies in Development Science. After having worked in several departments and ministries in senior administrative posts, he was appointed additional secretary to the president in 1997.

President Chandrika Bandranaike also appointed Mano Tittewela, as Senior Advisor and Senior Director General - Planning and Implementation with immediate effect.

After his primary and secondary education at Colombo’s Royal College, he obtained an MBA in Capital Markets and Finance from the University of Edinburgh in 1990. He then secured a Postgraduate Diploma from the British open University in Human Computer Interaction. He is a member of the Chartred Institute of Marketing CIM UK and of the International Board of Trustees of CIM-UK.

Tittawella was a director at Ceylinco Consolidated and was the deputy chairman of Ceylinco International Investments [Pvt] Limited. Tittawella has also held several key positions in the, state sector; he was director general of Public Enterprises Reform Commission (PERC) and chairman of People’s Bank.
