Waste of taxpayers’ money

Every time it rains pot holes are made by stagnant water and the metals give way as they are not held together by enough tar. It is a case of "Hoda, hoda, made danawa." (washing and washing and then putting it into the mud).

I am not a road engineer, but what occurs to my mind is that enough tar should be put in to bind the metals together, the middle of the road should be high and it should slope at a proper gradient towards the drain to prevent stagnation of water.

In Mt. Lavinia, particularly in the Sirimal Uyana area, you find cement road boards constructed on the sand surface and not on a reinforced concrete foundation with the result that any vandal could put the board down with one push.

The expenditure incurred should, therefore, be recovered from the contractor and the works Superintendent, who certified the payment voucher indicating that the work has been done satisfactorily.
