SAARC Women’s Assn. fiesta in aid of under-privileged children The SAARC Women’s Association’s Sri Lanka Chapter will celebrate UN Children’s Day with a Fashion, Food and Fun Fiesta at the Women’s International Club on October 4 (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for improving the condition of underprivileged children of a fishing community south of Colombo, the organisers said. The president of the association, Ms. Nimmi Thambiayah told a news conference last week that special highlights of the fiesta will be a fashion show for young people sponsored by Cotton Collection. There will also be a parade of traditional children’s clothes of the SAARC region as well as folk dances from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. There will be a number of food stalls providing a variety of mouth-watering dishes from India, Pakistan and Sri Lankan dishes including authentic Burgher lamprais, biriyani made to a traditional Pakistani recipe, samosas and Indian sweets among others. The chief guest at the fiesta will be Ms. Lubna Baqi, UNFPA Representative in Sri Lanka with the wives of the SAARC high commissioners here, who are all active in the association, as guests of honour together with Ms. Sriyani Tidball, founder of the Community Concerns Society. Tickets will be available in advance from "Cotton Collection," and "Leather Collection," Flower Road, from members and at the Women’s International Club on the 4th October.
