Matara HQI Sarathchandra Hettiarachchi has been transferred to the Police Reserve headquarters with effect from tomorrow.

IGP T. E. Anandarajah said the transfer has been made on disciplinary grounds.

However, HQI Hettiarachchi, when contacted yesterday, described his transfer as a ‘conspiracy’ on the part of somebody.

"As a police officer, I am prepared to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka, but in this instance, the reason for my transfer remains a mystery to me", he said.

It was not clear whether the HQI transfer is linked to last week’s attack by persons, described as Minister Mahinda Wijesekera’s supporters, on demonstrating unemployed graduates at Matara. (NP)
