Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer victims

The Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (LAF) will organise a "Memory Walk" next Saturday (September 20) to commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day dedicated to those who are afflicted to the disease and related disorders and carers, specially the family members.

"The day is celebrated around the world. Several hundred thousand supporters in a number of countries participate in various awareness raising activities including a ‘Memory Walk,’ LAF said.

Several sponsors have come forward to make the Sri Lanka commemoration a success providing soft drinks and refreshments.

The organisers said that the walk begins at 7.30 am from the Sports and Fitness Centre at the Colombo Hilton "with an energising breakfast to help the walkers finish their course."

Classic Radio and Yes FM Radio station will provide the best in music, while a MediCalls ambulance will accompany the walkers. The services of the police will also be at hand providing clearance and safety along the route as the participants take to the road, the organisers said.

This year a raffle draw will be the highlight of the walk. Tickets have been pre-sold and will be on sale prior to the walk. Prizes courtesy of SriLankan Airlines, HNB, Singer, Abans and many other generous donors are up for grabs.

Bottled water has been donated by Pet Packaging Pvt. Ltd to help quench the thirst and beat the heat.

Odel Unlimited has agreed to help by providing their Charity Desk "Corner of Hope," to spread the word about the walk and Alzheimer’s family of services.

"The foundation is looking at seeing many friends at the walk, making it another memorable event," the organisers said.
