Dr. Sobhita said that if the Mahanayakas failed in their obligation and duty, the people and the Sangha would be proceed to conduct ‘Upawasa’ (protests) opposite their monasteries.

This was the first ever occasion that the Mahanayakas have been criticised in public alleging they did not rise to the occasion to save the nation, race and religion.

Ven. Dr. Sobhita warned that the integrity of the nation, the security of the Sinhala race and the Buddha Sasana were in peril.
