Tharindu Samaraweera and Pradeepa Dilrukshi will be top seeds for the men’s and women’s open titles in the Western Province Inter Club league team and Individual Championships scheduled to be held on September 27 and 28 at the S.Thomas’ College Gymnasium in Mt Lavinia.

Samaraweera, a promising paddler from S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia, will also be the top seed in the boys under 19 and under 17 events. Dinesh Deshappriya, Shahanaka Ganegoda and Milinda Lakshitha are the other rated paddlers for the men’s open title .

Those vieing for the Women’s Open title are Dilrukshi Nuwangi Aponsu and the two Udugama sisters.

According Reza Latif, President Nugegoda Table Tennis Club, participation in this tournament is restricted to paddlers of Western Province. The tournament will be conducted in two stages. The tournament will be initially worked off as a league team championship. The organisers also hope to have an individual knockout championship. The tournament is sponsored by Nugegoda Table Tennis club.

A record number of entries are expected for the tournament. As many as 88 teams from 30 clubs are expected to take part at the inter club team championship. (D.R)
