A Swiss animal actvist Edith Zellweger started a free sterilization programme in Kandy Sri Lanka about five years ago. They have stopped the stray dog killing in Kandy.

On October 3, Kandy Municipal Council had a meeting regarding the few stray dogs in the Kandy market. Public Health Veterinary Director Dr. P. A. L. Harischandra and the Kandy Mayor and the Municipal veterinary surgeon Dr. Jayasinghe want to kill the dogs in Kandy. The Municipal has to catch them. We are very very sad about them.

Kandy is the great city with the Buddah’s tooth relic. Please advise the Mayor to continue the sterilization programme instead of killing them.
