SriLankan boosts European flights for winter, daily S’pore-KL frequency

SriLankan Airlines is increasing flights to several European cities as well as Kuala Lumpur with its new winter schedule beginning later this month when two more wide-bodied long-haul Airbus A340 aircraft joins the fleet, the airline announced.

The new winter schedule has been prepared as the hotel and tourism industry prepares for record tourist arrivals the coming winter season.

"The number of aircraft in the SriLankan fleet will increase to 13 – five A340s, four A330s, three A320s, and an Antonov AN12 freighter," it said in a news release.

Increased flights to London, Zurich, Frankfurt and Paris in Europe with Kuala Lumpur getting a daily frequency, up from the existing five flights a week, are part of this arrangement. The KL flight will also serve Singapore.

The airline said that the number of flights to London Heathrow Airport will increase from 9 to 11 with flights on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, returning via Male while the rest will be direct Colombo-London-Colombo operations.

Paris which now has three direct flights will receive an additional flight to bring it up to four per week with the Wednesday flight returning via Male.

A SriLankan spokesman said that Frankfurt, serving the vital German tourism market, which is now served with one direct flight and another via Zurich will have three direct flights while Zurich which presently has four direct flights and one linked to Frankfurt will have five direct flights .

SriLankan said that its daily Colombo-Dubai-Kuwait flight has been rationalized to leave Colombo 1320 hours everyday.

"The airline is working towards common timings on all its routes for the convenience of passengers, and 70% of its network is already on common timings, both through winter and summer. These include the flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Dubai-Kuwait, Singapore-Kuala Lumpur, Damman, Chennai, Trichy, Trivandrum and Bangalore," the release said.
