Emil Hamer proves himself as champion ‘Young Magician’

The Sri Lanka Magic Circle presented the Young Magicians Contest on September 28 for up and coming Young Magicians to commemorate the World Children’s Day, at the Lyceum International School hall, Nugegoda.

Four youngsters competed for the Donovan Andree Challenge Trophy presented by Entertainer Malcolm Andree. They were, Masters Damith de Alwis, Manuja de Silva, Emil Hamer and Sambuddika Ratnayake, all students in Grade 10.

One of the main objectives of the Sri Lanka Magic Circle is to popularize the Art of Magic amongst youngsters. This year’s contest was up to very high standard considering the grade of the contestants. The panel of judges consisted of Haleem Ghouse (a magician), Mrs. Lilani de Mel (magician) and Lynskey de Alwis (a retired District Judge).

There was a full house of an appreciative audience to see the youngsters blooming out as future professionals. They presented mind boggling acts and kept the audience spell bound! Master Emil Eranga Hamer, of D. S. Senanayake College was adjudged the winner and the carried away Donovan Andree Challenge Trophy for the Young Magician 2003 in a keenly fought contest.

The Sri Lanka Magic Circle, will be presenting yet another Major Contest on October 18 at the YMBA Hall, Borella at 5.45 p.m. where six professional magicians would be vying for the Sri Lanka Magicians National Trophy 2003 in aid of their building project at 156 "Kalapura", Templers Road, Mt. Lavinia.
