Regrets govt’s no to anti-corruption convention
Transparency International (Sri Lanka) has regretted the UNF government’s failure to be involved in the drafting process of the long awaited UN Convention on curbing corruption.
The UN has just finalised the convention on curbing corruption globally. This convention has been finalised after serious deliberations and with the active participation of the civil society, but not without resistance, TISL said in a statement.
Under the new convention, the transnational corruption and recovery of stolen assets of states could be addressed with effective remedies, while placing international obligations upon states parties to minimise corruption within their jurisdiction, it said.
