Saman Villas, the first Deluxe Boutique Small Luxury Hotel in Sri Lanka, completes eight years this December and in keeping with the high standards it always maintains, will undergo a major two-month refurbishing and upgrading programme beginning May 1, a spokesman for the hotel said on Friday.

Saman Villas commenced operations on December 1995 and was described as ‘the first property capable of attracting the discerning upmarket frequent traveller outside Colombo.’

The hotel underwent constant upgrading programmes during the five-year period from 1997 to 2002. The improvements included the first Spa in Sri Lanka, garden and pool pavilions, conference room, a bridge connecting the reception to South Wing rooms and numerous guest amenities costing as much as 25 per cent of the original investment.

The major improvements that would be undertaken are - Construction of a state-of-the-art Spa with a unique and attractive water feature; Upgrading the Duplex Villa by enlarging the bedroom, adding a balcony and completely new interior decor; Converting the upper floor Library Bar to an Open Air Bar with an unobstructed panoramic view from North to South and make the Libray and Pool Table area cosy; Modifying the infinity-edge of the pool in keeping with recommendations of many hotel guests; Improving Open Air Bathrooms by providing outdoor king-size bath tubs; Re-designing the Pool Bar; Improving interior decor in suites and public areas and indoor and outdoor lighting and Flat Screen TVs and latest audio video equipment, state-of-the-art climate control devices, etc.

The spokesman said the hotel would be repositioned from winter next year as a superior deluxe boutique hotel with the price revision consistent with the proposed improvements.
