Commemoration of humiliation

After their desperate attempts to paper over the Prime Minister’s gaffe on Iraq, his spin doctors are now trying to claim that his invitation to the Portuguese P.M. to come to Sri Lanka in 2005 was not to "celebrate" the Portuguese invasion in 1505 but only to "commemorate" the "commencement of TIES between the two countries" ! How servile can we get ? The brutal Portuguese brought no TIES, what they brought were MANACLES. Have we no self-respect as a nation to stoop so low as to lick the boot that trampled on our sovereignty?

As part of this whitewash campaign, some writers are even rewriting history to claim that this bloodthirsty nation came here on invitation to rid us of the forebears of Osama B.L!!

Sinhala women and children flung to crocodiles must have been part of that MoU! And while the P.M & Co. are setting about their ‘Baila Carnival", we Buddhists might as well commemorate 1505 as also marking the commencement of "unethical conversions" in Sri Lanka!!
