Mr. Choksy - please give us a better deal or shoot us

Senior Citizens’ NSB special FD interest rate has been brought down to meagre 8.2 per cent few weeks ago. It was at 9.2% . This is 3rd or 4th downward revision during a period of 6 months.

Now, we, the senior citizens who solely depend on the income derived from the interests of NSB are really down and out, as we cannot manage with the meager income. The cost of living has risen so much and senior citizens daily requirement of medicines erode a good part of the income as most govt hospitals do not have the required drugs regularly.

What we require is a regular steady income for our sustenance during the evening of our lives. We are not asking for money, Pajeros, houses or subsidized canteen facilities like in the parliament. We are merely asking for a reasonable income - a non-varying a little high interest rate (like 12-15 monthly) for our small gratuity and EPF payment etc, received at our retirement, which are the NSB as FDs.

Dear Sir, if you can not do this as a special social service, please round up all of us Sr. Citizens to Galle Face Green and shoot us - this will make matters easy for us.
