LTTE cadre arrested for robbery

Mannar police on Monday arrested an LTTE cadre wanted in connection with pilfering goods valued over Rs. 21,000 from a grocery located in Mannar owned by a Muslim.

The suspect had been arrested while loitering at the Mannar central bus stand and the police recovered a cyanide capsule worn by the suspect round his neck and a metal tag with the number (2091).

Police also recovered a pass issued by the LTTE, 27 batteries and seven packets of cigarettes. The suspect had been working as an officer in the LTTE frontlines in Iyakkachchi, Vinayagapuram, Kilinochchi, the investigations have revealed.

Sources said that the suspect, ‘Ilappiriyen’ by the LTTE, had been identified as Guruswami Shiwakumara.
