English cricketer in sea ordeal
England cricketer Gareth Batty suffered injuries to his body when undercurrents forced him to land on some coral rocks while surfing on the sea in Galle. Batty, a member of the English cricket team touring Sri Lanka, is reported to have been saved by two lifeguards who were on duty. The Englishman, at the time of the incident, had been in the company of team-mates Michael Vaughan and Mathew Hoggard. See full report on sports page.
