Our wonderful Postal Service

There is no doubt that the service offered by our Postal Department is unique.

I do not think that anywhere in the world would you get Christmas cards posted in December, reaching the addressee in March the following year. This was the fate of the Christmas card I sent to my brother in England.

On November 18, I received my Dialog telephone bill on which the due date was marked as the 10th of that month. On examining the envelope that contained the bill, I was surprised to see it franked “Colombo - 26.10.03”. It had taken 23 days for a letter to reach Dehiwala from Colombo, unbelievable, but true. I will be charged a late payment levy but will the Minister, the PMG or any Postal Authority be concerned?

The President has taken over certain ministries as she had apparently found the functions of the ministers inefficient and I urgently request her to take over the Ministry of Posts too as the Ministry is utterly indifferent to the inefficiency of the Postal Department.
