Level 2 tennis coaching exam next month The SLTA’s ambitions to upgrade its coaches get underway in the New Year with ITF-supervised Level Two examinations in January. Two top ITF officials, Suresh Menon and Miguel Crespo will arrive shortly to conduct tests on Level One qualified coaches desirous of graduating to Level Two, of which Sri Lanka has only six presently. "We have invested heavily on junior development over the years and are now beginning to feel the lack of better-qualified coaches. Just six Level Two coaches is barely enough, especially with evidence of rapid development in the outstations. The success of Jaffna’s schoolboys in the final of the provincial mini tennis tournament recently obviously means that region had to be provided with qualified coaches in the future. I hope the ITF conducted examination will have plenty of candidates — they are needed to boost further development," said SLTA president Suresh Subramaniam. Application from Level One coaches will close on December 31 with K. D. Y. Pathiraja, SLTA Director of Coaching. Those interested should apply in writing before that date as otherwise they will not be able to take part in this course. |
