Formal opening ceremony of Asian Aviation Centre Tennis Club at Ratmalana

The formal opening ceremony of the Asian Aviation Centre Tennis Club, Ratmalana will take place on Wednesday the 28th April. In connection with the opening ceremony an exhibition tennis match will be played by national/former national players commencing 4.30 p.m. Rohan De Silva, Jayendra Wijesekera, Aruna Seniviratne are some of the players billed to take part.

Asian Aviation Centre is the premiere training institute in the country conducting degree and licentiate courses in aviation for students. The primary objective of providing a tennis facilities complex is to benefit the student population of the institute numbering over 200 students. The AAC Tennis Club students tennis team will play matches against the leading universities and higher educational institutions in the country, to further promote the game of tennis among these universities and institutions.

The former Airport Recreational Sports Club, Ratmalana tennis courts which were in a state of disrepair and not in use for a number of years have been fully restored by AAC, and apart from the students, the residents in and around Ratmalana will be able to make use of these excellent facilities. Already about 15 associate members of the AAC Tennis Club, from residents of the area have formed a team and scheduled to play several matches against the leading tennis clubs. These activities will help to promote the game of tennis in and around Ratmalana.

The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony will be Chandran Rutnam, the Chairman of the Lionair Group of Companies, AAC being a wholly owned subsidiary company of Lionair. Several distinguished invitees will attend the ceremony.
