Four new MPs and a switch

When Parliament met yesterday (18), four new National List members took their oaths before the Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara

From the UPFA, Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, former Prime Minister of the PA government, Mervin Silva and Wijedasa Rajapakse PC, were sworn in as Members of Parliament while from the ITAK P. Ariyanethiran was sworn in.

The Speaker announced that the four new members were filling the vacancies created by the resignations of Janadasa Peiris, Mary Lucilda and E. A.D. P. Weerasinghe (UPFA) and Kingsley Rajanayagam (ITAK).

An SLMC member of Parliament, Hussain Bahila (National List) crossed over to the government benches later while the SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem was taking up a privileges issue in the Parliament.
