SLMC MP Ismail Quddus father-in-law of SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem tendered his resignation to Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Priyani Wijesekera in Parliament last morning said Secretary General of the SLMC MP. M. T. Hassen Ali yesterday.

The High Command of the SLMC which met on Tuesday night at leader's Stanmore Crescent residence presided over by Senior Deputy Leader Abdul Majeed recommended that there were enough grounds to take disciplinary action against the four rebel MPs and that they should be suspended immediately pending inquiry.

Twenty of the 23 members of the SLMC High Command who were present after much deliberation about the circumstances in which allegations were levelled against the leader came to a conclusion that it was a deliberate fabrication created with the malicious intention of dividing the party and community.

Meanwhile W. P. S. Pushpakumara National List MP of the SLMC who tendered his resignation as an MP on Wednesday told The Island that he had raised a matter of privileges to Speaker of Parliament W. J. M. Lokubandara and complained in writing as well as orally that a Deputy Minister of UPFA government had phoned him several times and offered him a position as organiser of the SLFP for Harispattuwa and several other benefits of houses and vehicles, if only he would crossover President Kumaratunga who was person who had much gratitude and would reward him well.
