Host dies, struck on the head with a coconut

KANDY - An alcohol addict is reported to have been killed after a brawl at a party at Udunuwara on Monday afternoon.

The deceased is identified as M. M. M. Upali of Peeligama in Gadaladeniya.

The victim had been struck on the head with a coconut, Daulagala police said.

He was a father of three and was fifty-five years old, police said.

The victim had invited a group of friends to his hut to enjoy a hooch party.

After consuming alcohol a row had broken out which ended with the host being attacked, police investigations disclosed.

On information Daulagala Police rushed to scene where a suspect was taken into custody. Subsequently another was apprehended, police said.

Both were produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate Leon Seneviratne and were remanded till July 13.

Mr. Seneviratne earlier visited the scene of the crime and directed the Kandy JMO to hold an autopsy and report.

Kandy Senior JMO Dr. A. B. Seneviratne is proceeding with the post-mortem examination.

Investigations are conducted by IP G. P. J. S. Chandrasekera OIC, Daulagala police station with SIs D. Jinadasa and N. Silva, PC Lal (29060), PC Bandara (25659) and PD Yatawara (4919) on the directions of ASP Ravi Chandrasinghe, SSP E. M. Gunathilake Banda and DIG Nimal Mediwake.
