New IGP Chadra Fernando and EPDP Leader and Minister
Douglas Devananda recently met at the Korean National
Foundation Day celebrations in Colombo, where they
exchanged pleasantries and compared their notes on the
security situation. Minister Devananda, who is
Prabhakaran’s bete noire being stalked by suicide cadres
relentlessly, does not appear to be quite convinced by
what the IGP is saying.

High alert in Trinco as
LTTE calls hartal
Police and the Security forces were placed on a
heightened state of alert in Trincomalee to prevent any untoward
incident from taking place following an LTTE call for a full
day’s hartal today, as a number of Sinhala organisations from
the South had joined the fasting families of two homeguards
abducted by the Tigers, a Security forces spokesman said.

The 13th Parliamentary General Election saw the finale on 2
April 2004. It was the most peaceful election that Sri Lanka
ever experienced during the last two decades. No curfew was
imposed, as it was not necessary to maintain the law and
order, even though it had been the case in the past to enforce
curfew immediately after an election.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sri Lanka are to
renegotiate the list of items under 100 percent concession list,
the no concession list and the phase-out list after Colombo
unilaterally made some changes in the list of items under 100
percent concession list, an official source told Daily Times.
