The winning saga of the 45-year-old veteran, Ravi Subramaniam of Aitken Spence Travels, continued for the 24th successive year at the Colombo Plaza sponsored 24th Travel Trade Sports Club Tennis Championships ’04 concluded at the Queens Club last Friday.

Subramaniam, while taking the singles title for the 24th year, retained the Over 40 singles for the sixth successive year.

Then he partnered the 59-year-old, Ravi Thambiayah of Renuka Hotels to take the Doubles and the Over 40 doubles, making a clean sweep for yet another year.

The Ravi and Ravi combination gave Aitken Spence and Renuka Hotels the glittering "Colombo Plaza" Challenge Trophy, awarded for the overall winners, for the second successive year.

Over 40 Men’s Singles - Ravi Subramaniam (Aitken Spence Travels) beat P. Upali (Camelot Beach Hotel) best of 17 games, 9/1.

Over 40 Men’s Doubles - Ravi Subaramaniam (Aitken Spence Travels) & Ravi Thambiayah (Renuka Hotels) beat P. Upali (Camelot Beach) and Max Hutchinson (Taj Airport Garden Hotel) best of 17 games 9/1.

Open Women’s Singles - Nirmalee Paldano (SriLankan Airlines) beat Udani Dharmadasa (SriLankan Airlines) 6/1, 6/2.

Colombo Plaza sponsored the tournament for the second successive year. Their new Resident Manager Yasmin Cader, Asst. Director Sales and Tournament — Co-ordinator, Chris Quyn and President, Travel Trade Sports Club, Keethi Jayaweera were associated with the awards presentation.

The TTSC has now completed eight tournaments for this year and hopes to complete the rest — Badminton, Swimming, Track & Field, Beach Rugby & Volleyball and the fun Motor Rally, by January 2005.
