Sri Lanka will be aiming to maintain its hold on
second place in the ICC One-Day International Championship table
in the ongoing Paktel Trophy tournament in Pakistan.
Sri Lanka claimed second spot in the official
ODI table after strong performances on home soil which saw it
win 5-0 against South Africa and triumph in the Asia Cup.
If Sri Lanka loses three of its four group
matches against Pakistan and Zimbabwe, it will drop to third
place behind New Zealand.
Pakistan has improved its rating by one point by
winning its initial matches against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and
will climb to fourth in the table if they can beat Sri Lanka in
the next encounter in Lahore.
Amongst the other top sides, England and West
Indies both benefited from reaching the final of the ICC
Champions Trophy.
West Indies’ victory in the ICC Champions Trophy
has boosted its rating to 107 - the highest it has been since
the official table was introduced in October 2002 - and it is
now fourth in the official table.
England’s ODI rating has also improved since it
failed to reach the final of the NatWest Series in July. A 2-1
victory over India followed by triumphs over Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka
and Australia have rapidly boosted England’s rating from 101 to
107.
Despite its defeat in the ICC Champions Trophy
semi-final, Australia still holds a commanding 16-point lead in
the official ODI table.
