Legally on the wrong side
Yesterday’s traffic flow on the Galle Road, Bambalapitiya after City Traffic implemented the new ‘uni-flow traffic system’ as an answer to traffic congestion. The new system has introduced a one-way traffic flow northwards along the Galle road from Wellawatte (near Savoy ) upto the Kollupitiya Junction; and form the Liberty Plaza roundabout along Duplication Road for traffic moving southwards up to, Wellawatte.

COPE to probe board heads, members
The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) plans to check on the bio-data of heads and board members of over 200 public enterprises. "This is to ensure incompetent persons would not be given responsibility," COPE chief Kurunegala District MP Rohitha Bogollagama told The Island yesterday. "We want to prevent people from securing high posts on the strength of their political affiliation."

  • Dial 118 to report a crime and spur police into action
    Law and Order Secretary Tilak Ranaviraja yesterday said a new scheme had been implemented by the ministry where public could dial the number 118 and inform about any crime or break down in law and order anywhere in the country.
