Akuressa: "The business community of our country should be thanked for
promoting welfare services to the public.
The UPA government would assist them to develop their industries which would
boost the country’s economy" said the Minister of Media, Aviation, Ports and
Deputy Minister of Education, Mangala Samaraweera.
Minister, Mangala Samaraweera was addressing the presentation
of medical and surgical equipment worth Rs. 3 million donated by Tokyo Cement
(Lanka) for its new operating theatre held at the Base Hospital, Kamburupitiya .
The Managing Director of the Tokyo Cement (Lanka), Raja Gnanam
made this presentation on an appeal by the chairman, Ports Dev. Authority, Dileepa
Jayawardena and a member of the business community, Mrs. Jayanthi Gunawardena.
The minister said, the government is carrying on a development
programme in the country.
In the past when the UNP was in power, all development
activities had come to a standstill.
The Kamburupitiya Base Hspital started during the time when the
late S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was the Minister of health, has now become the
premier base hospital in the Matara district.
The Managing Director of Tokyo Cement (Lanka), Raja Gnanam, Dr.
Hemantha de Alwis and Danney Hittetiyage, a former SP Minister were present.
