Kandy — A gang of private passenger coach operators
launched an attack on the Kandy Bus Company office at the clock tower bus stand,
causing extensive damage to the bus company properties, according to Kandy police.
According to Kandy Bus company official the damage to the
office property could be estimated at over Rs. 50,000.
Seven bus crews of the South depot sustained injuries following
the attack with brick-bats. Three of them were admitted to the Kandy General
Hospital, the Bus Company official said.
The attack was launched following a dispute between a driver of
the Kandy Bus Company and a driver of private coach operating between Kandy and
Matale over parking buses at the stand.
Both the Kandy Bus Company owned buses and the private
passenger coaches on Kandy — Matale route use a common parking space at the Kandy
clock tower bus stand.
