The Sri Lanka Army has ordered residents of
Vadamaradchchi East, which comes under control of the Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to get passes from the SLA military
base located in Palaly to take generators to their villages from
the government controlled areas, civil sources complained
Till now the SLA soldiers located in
Thenmaradchchi and Vadamaradchchi divisions allowed residents to
take generators to their villages accepting passes issued by the
respective Divisional Secretaries on the recommendations of
village level officers (Grama Sevaka Officers) concerned.
SLA soldiers in Mirusuvil area Friday did not
allow residents of LTTE controlled areas to take generators to
their villages to be used for temple festivals, other public
events and weddings. SLA soldiers had told the residents they
should produce passes obtained from Palaly SLA headquarters.
Residents are in a quandary how to obtain passes
from Palaly SLA headquarters, which is located in high security
