Jayantha Dhanapala, Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat (SCOPP)
and Senior Advisor to the President visited Ampara yesterday in pursuance of a
policy of visiting the six district offices of the SLMM for the purpose of
ensuring the smooth implementation of the Cease-Fire-Agreement (CFA), press
release said.
Dhanapala held discussions with Raimo Rastas, Head of the SLMM,
Ampara District and the local representatives on the Committee, reviewing
statistics for complaints and violations which reveal that Ampara is one of the
districts with a low number of ruled violations against the government as well as
the LTTE.
He complimented the committee on the cooperative atmosphere
prevailing among the members and their practice of conflict resolution and peace
building with a view to reducing the number of ceasefire violations.
In the afternoon Mr. Dhanapala met with Herath Abeyweera, GA for
the Ampara District and civil society representatives. He briefed them on the
current situation in the Peace Process and was informed by them of the
developments in the district and the concerns of civil society in the area.
Earlier in the day the SCOPP chief received detailed briefings
from personnel from the Security Forces and the Police.
