Six houses in Gattuwatte, Peliyagoda, near the level crossing on
Kandy road were gutted by fire yesterday (22). The houses were built adjoining one
another and caught fire easily but most of the residents were away at the time and
no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. Residents said
that a kitchen had caught fire first resulting in a domestic gas can exploding
which spread the fire to the other houses.
