Bikkhus write to Sha Rukh Khan
Disgruntled extremists blamed for attack

by Dasun Edirisinghe

The National Bikkhu Front yesterday alleged that the ‘Temptation 2004’ bomb attack had been carried out and organised by a group of disgruntled extremists.

"Protest against the musical show surfaced only after the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation was selected as the electronic sponsor of the show. Since then, one of its rivals had been instigating a certain group of extremists to sabotage the musical show,"a special NBF message addressed to Sha Rukh Khan through the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Nirupama Rao said.

The letter, condemning the attack, indicated that the show had nothing to do with the first year death anniversary of Ven. Soma thera. The letter signed by the NBF President Dambara Amila and General Secretary Kalawelgala Chandraloka was handed over to High Commissioner Rao yesterday.

The NBF has said that the bomb attack against world renowned artistes’ show killing two innocents was a part of a multifaceted conspiracy aimed at bringing Sri Lanka to disrepute and projecting her people as savages. The main objective, it has said, was to deal a blow to the healthy relations Sri Lanka has with India.

The NBF says that the mega musical show was a cultural event and reminded that throughout thousands of history the two countries had links through the cultural ambassadors like Sha Rukh Khan.

Enemies of both India and Sri Lanka operating to disrupt the good relations between the two countries are now making use of religious fundamentalism to create disharmony among the two nations, the letter has said.

The NBF has requested the Indian Mr. Khan to tell his countrymen the true situation.

"All Sri Lankans irrespective of their religious and racial differences welcome you and your countrymen as brethren," the letter has added.
