New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori says ultimately it
will be the biomechanists who decide whether the "doosra" delivery can be bowled
legally.
Indian offspinner Harbhajan Singh was pinged for a suspected
illegal action in Bangladesh yesterday when attempting the controversial delivery
which spins away from the right-handed batsmen.
Sri Lankan star Muttiah Muralitharan has also run into similar
problems with the doosra.
"I wish I could bowl one," Vettori joked, before admitting the
reporting of Harbhajan was a clear signal the game's authority was "cracking down"
on suspect bowling actions.
"With the new rules (15 degrees) it basically comes down to the
biomechanist if you can do it or not."
Vettori said he had experimented with bowling the doosra in the
practice nets but it was not something he was seriously considering taking out to
the middle.
"You always try things in the nets, but it's not something you
are able to master and for me I think it takes away from what you are doing.
"You try and work on things but there is not really enough time
to perfect them."
