Kushboo in Sri Lanka for ‘Swayambu’

With the aim of displaying the latest trends in both the fashion and beauty industry as well as supporting a worthy cause, Malathi Sivendran and Anusha are organising a fashion show "Swayambu" on February 23 and 13 at the Holiday Inn, Colombo 2.

The choreographers of "Swayambu" are two sisters Vidya Balakrishnan and Shoba Ravishankar from most renowned modelling school in India Viba and who are also accomplished designers with their own label House of Viba. They have been the choreographers for "Miss Chennai" pageant for so many years.

The popular Indian filmstar Kushboo, who is also a film producer will be in Colombo to compere the show.

Ten supper models including the reigning Miss India Simran will grace the catwalk. Kushboo runs her own company Avni Media production.

Organised by ‘Madhar Shakthi’ and ‘Saiva Mangayar Kazaham" the part of the proceeds from this show benifit to Tsunami victims. Kushboo said: ‘I would like to give our assistance to help the victims."

With over 150 films to her credit in all South Indian languages, she has turned her attention to producing films.

Married to a director Sunder Kushboo’s debut in the films like "Chinathamby" Murai Maman’ moved her career graph to the top. A mother of two children Ananditha and Avanthika both daughters she is now involved in producing a supper hit ‘Giri’ under her attention.

She is one of the producers of the popular tele drama ‘Kungumam’ that was aired in Sri Lanka. Kalki a family serial where she plays the title role - and a quiz programme on family fortunes called ‘Jackpot’. Married to a director Kushboo says that now her family is her first priority. "I love my kids and my husband and I put aside all others for them - Kushboo smiles.

"I acted for a film directed by Sunder and the next best thing was that he proposed mariage and without battling an eyelid I agreed" said Kushboo with a sparkle in her eyes. Any regrets? Not at all. We are very happy.

Sunder is understanding and loves to be at home if he has no work, play with the kids and a domesticated husband says, Kushboo.

Her formula for success are she says determination to learn the language, sincerity and professionalism.

Born in Bombay but now living in Chennai, Kushboo has a busy schedule everyday. Her day starts at 5 a.m. in the morning goes to late nights. She loves Sri Lanka specially because it has many respects resemblances to Kerala.

Talking of her husband she says that Sunder is a wonderful father, understanding husband than he was my boy friend. She is Blessed with two daughters Ananditha and Avantika.

Although he is a Hindu and I am a Muslim never we discussed religious issues. I help him with his pooja at home.

A good cook Kushboo loves to make all kinds of dishes at home

A non-veg, Kushboo joins two days a week to be a vegetarian an act of love.

Her programme in Sri Lanka,Swayambu will feature designer garments including bridal wear, evening wear , sarees, shalwars, cholis and more by the House of Viba. Also on display will be an exclusive jewellery collection by Wellawatte Nithyakalyani Jewellers. Fantasy make-up and body art will be created by Anusha Herbal Beauty Care.

Outfits worn on the ramp during Swayambu will be retailed on February 12 and 13. A sale of trendy clothing from the House of Viba and collections by Ananya will take place on February 11 at the Saiva Mangayar Kalagam, 23, Rudra Mawatha, Wellawatte. In addition 22 of Kushboo’s elaborate ‘Jackpot’ saree jackets will be on offer.

Funds, from the second show will help further finance the development of projects of the Saiva Mangayar Kalagam that wll be celebrating it’s 75th anniversary.
