A L.I.F.T. to potential designers

Mystic Reality was the showcase for sixteen young aspiring designers to display their potential, at an exhibition of their creativity in the Grand Ballroom of The Galle Face Hotel organised by the Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (Pvt) Ltd. Among the sixteen participants there was but one man, who concentrated on clothes for men. Imagination ran riot with some of the young ones, while Minel Lowe did her entire presentation in black, where she combined black wide brimmed hats with long black highly sophisticated evening gowns. Sheruka Mahakumarage concentrated on brilliant red dresses of old world styling in a romantic vein, except for one dress in white. A Nasca Line from the Peruvian desert was the inspiration for Rangika Sarathchandra, while the Phantom’s Below gave Piumi Nanayakkara the inspiration for her collection in luminous blue. It, was encouraging to see the support these young ones got from their, friends and family, but of course the guidance and encouragement came from the Chairperson Roshani Leanage, and her daughter Niroshini and their staff. There was a variety of fashion but the students who were receiving their diplomas were all in black outfits all in western styles. Roshini for the evening wore a saree in a golden beige tone of colour bordered in a sunset orange verging on red worked in gold, and off white. Niroshini’s dress consisted of a slim skirt also in a gleaming pale gold, with a blouson embroidered top which had a V neckline going into straps. A high necked sleeveless top Shantha Crysostum teamed with black pants for sleek sophistication, and chic one always associates with her.
