A policeman’s son is believed to have been
involved in a Batticaloa gang under investigation for several
cases of murder, robbery and theft over a period of time.
The policeman holding the rank of Sergeant is
based at Batticaloa.
This had come to light after the recent arrest
of a youth by police commandos during a routine search at the
Batticaloa bus stand.
STF headquarters said that the youth identified
as Thurairajasingham Wijekumar had been armed with a Chinese
manufactured pistol. Under interrogation, the suspect had
admitted to have committed murder, robbery and theft in the
Batticaloa district. The policeman’s son and an LTTE cadre had
been involved with Wijekumar. Police described the LTTE cadre as
a Karuna loyalist. (SF)
