Sri Lankan students excelled at the
International Convention on Students Quality Control Circles (ICSQCC)
2004 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh when they carried away three out
of 18 awards. Sri Lankan students and teachers attended the
ICSQCC, which was organised by the World Council for Total
Quality and Excellence in Education (WCTQEE) under the theme
"Quality Education for Peace" recently.
Delegates from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka,
Bangladesh, Germany, Hong Kong, Turkey, Malaysia, Mauritius and
Iran took part in the event.
The Sri Lankan delegation included students from
Isipathana and Nalanda Colleges. The theme for the debate was
"Only Quality Education Can Establish Peace in Society". The
Best Debater award was won by Dinuku Munasingha of Isipathana
College while "Improving the skill of Spoken English at Nalanda
College," a presentation by the student’s Quality Circle of
Nalanda College won the second prize under stream A. Under the
College Conception the third prize was won by Ashan Kodikara.
The Sri Lankan team was led and trained by
Deputy Director General of the WCTQEE Ranjith Goonatilake who
presented a paper on ‘Problems and constraints in obtaining ISO
9001:2000 for a tertiary education institution’.
