Finance Minister test drives ‘Ceylinco Reva’ electric car

Finance Minister, Dr. Sarath Amunugama who test drove the Ceylinco Reva appreciated the efforts of Ceylinco Consolidated in bringing electric cars to Sri Lanka. Minister Amunugama whilst assuring his fullest co-operation suggested to Rohan Senanayake, Deputy Chairman of Ceylinco Maini (Pvt) Ltd, Manura Ekanayake, Director Marketing and Shanta Yapa Chief Operating Officer to make these eco-friendly cars available to the general public soon.

Reva, the automatic city car is not available in Sri Lanka as Ceylinco Reva. This two-door car, which does not have an engine, is a high-tech car with two microprocessors on-board. The power pack once fully charged does 80 Km irrespective of traffic congestion. The car is silent even at its top speed of 65 Km per hour and does not emit smoke.

In September 2004, Ceylinco Consolidated signed an agreement with Maini Group of India to introduce these cars to the local market and at the request of Deshamanya Dr. Lalith Kotelawala the Indian company agreed to transfer technology to manufacture these cars in Sri Lanka for both the domestic and export markets. The joint venture company, Ceylinco Maini (Pvt) Ltd intends to import cars initially and then to start local manufacturing.

Ceylinco Reva electric cars are available in three models. The Classe has all the features available in a modern car, which includes central locking, remote controlled air conditioner, leather seats, interior decals matched to body colors and anti-theft devise.

The Ceylinco Reva is built on a space frame, which cocoons passengers in case of a collision. Its body is made out of ABS which is dent proof. The car has a very low centre of gravity that makes it highly maneuverable and very stable when negotiating curves. Yet, it has a high ground elearance and looks very attractive with its 13" alloy wheels. The car has a regenerative braking device controlled electronically to assist its hydraulic service brakes.

Ceylinco Reva comes in an array of attractive colors. The high seating position makes the car very comfortable to drive. The instrument cluster has an indicator, which is similar to the fuel gauge in a conventional car to show the user the state of charge of the power pack. Ceylinco Maini (Pvt) Ltd has a service centre with state of the art equipment and manned by factory-trained personnel to provide an excellent after sales service.
