Three persons were injured in a bomb attack on
an LTTE political office at Vairapuliyankulam, in the Vavunia
district, yesterday (8). A cyclist passing by, in the early
hours of the day, had lobbed a grenade at the office, Vavunia
based security force sources said.
The incident is believed to be an extension of
the attacks on the LTTE' Wanni faction by the breakwaway group
led by Karuna Amman the sources said add-ing that it appeared
that Karuna's forces had moved into the Wanni.
An LTTE source in the area, when contacted by
'The Island', declined to saywho was responsible for the attack
but added the three persons injured in the attack were civilians
who had come to the office to arrange for the commemoration day
of a LTTE cadre who had died while on a protest fast in Jaffna.
None of the LTTE personnel attached to the
Vairapuliyankulam office were injured, he said adding that the
attack could have been carried out by a Karuna Amman loyalist
but he was un able to say who the attacker was in the absence of
any clues on the attack.
The Vavuniya police said they were investigating
the incident and it could not be ruled out that Karuna faction
had now moved into the Wanni area where they had not been
observed in the past.
