JERUSALEM, March 28 (AFP) - The Israeli army
was Monday lifting the closure of the Palestinian territories
clamped down a week ago for fears of attacks during the Jewish
Purim festival, an army spokesman said.
"Following a decision by the political leaders,
it was decided to lift the general blockade from Monday
morning," he said in a statement, adding that the measure had
been taken "to prevent possible infiltrations by terrorists into
Israel thus boosting the security of the people."
The Purim festival, which started on Thursday,
includes carnival-style parades and costume parties.
