Amal International thrashed Royal Institute by
massive 110 points (125-15) while Elizabeth Moir took the better
of Carey College by 47 points to 39 to advance to the final of
the Amal International Invitation under 18 basketball
Royal Institute had no answer to fast moving
Amal International as they succumbed to a heavy defeat after
trailing the winners 11-73 at the lemons. For Amal
International, A.K. Suleiman (42 with three three pointers),
Ashamed Yoosuf (32), Rikaz Jeelan (20) and M. Musharaf (16) were
the point scorers. Ujith Steinwall with 12 contributed most to
the meagre Royal Institute score.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Moir prevailed over Carey
College by 47 points to 39 in a closely contested match. The
winners who were trailing the losers by nine points (14-23) at
the end of the first half bounced back in style to turn the
table in the second half.
Gayan de Silva (22) and Jeevan Fernando (19)
were the chief scorers for Elizabeth Moir while Mohamed Azakeer
(19) and D. Samarakoon (10) scored for Carey.
Amal International have the edge over Elizabeth
Moir in todayís final as on Wednesday they registered a
convincing 43 point win over their opponents.
Ajith Kuruppu, the senior national coach and the
vice president of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation, will be
the Chief Guest at todayís final which is scheduled to be played
at Amal Internationl courts at 4 .00 p.m.
