Sarath Amunugama appointed Vice Chancellor

The status of the Aesthetic Institute which was a faculty of the Kelaniya University has been upgraded to the University of Visual and Performing Arts of Sri Lanka and Prof. Sarath Amunugama has been appointed the first Vice Chancellor by the President.

Prof. R.L.L. Ratnayake, Vice Chairman of the University grants Commission yesterday told "The Island" that Prof. Amunugama’s appointment is for a period of three years effective from 27th July 2005.

Other Presidential appointments are: Dr. Lester James Peiris is the new Vice Chancellor of the University, for a period of 5 years effective the same and Justice P. Ramanathan is the new Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University for a period of five years effective from 27th July 2005 and Mr. Chandra Embuldeniya is the Vice Chancellor of the same University effective from the same date.
